Jess makes the CN 30 under Thirty class of 2020!
We are delighted to announce that Jess Bishop, Event Project Manager at Bray Leino Events has won a place with the CN 30 under Thirty class of 2020. Here, we speak to Jess to find out more about what this involves and her wider thoughts on the industry….
Congratulations Jess! Can you tell us a bit more about 30 under Thirty and what it involves?
The Conference News 30 under Thirty recognises and celebrates the event industry’s top young talent. Each year, 30 young people are selected to join this exciting platform for the industry’s rising stars which is judged by a panel of experts.
Tell us a bit about your role at Bray Leino Events
Fresh into the industry, I joined Bray Leino Events just under four years ago as an Event Project Coordinator. I am now an Event Project Manager, based in our Bristol office. No day is the same for me (and my colleagues), which is why I love my job so much. I am extremely enthusiastic and thrive jumping from task to task in order to tackle my ever-growing to do list. I’m never afraid to face a challenge head on (good job really, as this is very much needed working within the Events industry)!
What is the best event you have worked on?
I have been fortunate enough to manage a large number (I’ve lost count now) of events for clients including HS2, BP, BT and Castrol. It’s really hard to pick one particular event that I would say was my ‘best’ event, so can I say all of them?!
Each event is so special, with different client requirements, and working with different partners and event organisers across Europe, America and Asia. My favourite part of the job is being on site to see the months of hard work finally come together and realised at the event itself. Being an Event Project Manager is such a varied role, which is why I enjoy my job so much; I really don’t suit doing the same thing day in day out.
During times like these where everything is going online, why are live events so important?
We all know 2020 hasn’t turned out to be the year we were expecting; however, I know how valuable face to face meetings and events are, so I know they will come back. In the meantime, we are enjoying creating and delivering virtual events for our clients, until physical events return.
What do you think events will look like in a post COVID-19 world?
I believe live events will definitely come back; they are so beneficial for businesses and for the people who attend them. You really can’t beat a face to face meeting with clients showcasing new product launches etc. I can see the content and showcases/products at these events having even more meaning than before.
Social distancing will be part of our new normal for the foreseeable, so luckily the events industry has had its own take on track and trace for years now, called lead retrieval, so I think this will become more of a compulsory item at events, rather than an upgraded addition.
