Global Investment Summit 2021: “The world was watching”

With the UK’s ambitious net-zero targets making headlines around the world, the DIT’s Global Investment Summit 2021 would set the tone for future foreign investment in UK green business.

Ahead of the COP26 climate change conference, this event would provide a crucial financial boost for UK green businesses, creating new jobs and underpinning our country’s reputation as a world leader in green industry.

The Department for International Trade asked Bray Leino Events to manage and deliver the entire event: Our team handled everything, from programme structure, event content and management of 40+ VIP speakers, to delegate experience, branding, and exhibition & sponsorship development.

An iconic London venue, The Science Museum, agreed to close its doors to the public for the first time ever, allowing us to showcase the UK’s most promising clean technology to a VIP international audience representing trillions in potential investment.

We created an environment where connections would be forged: Spaces were transformed to accommodate green rooms, private meeting rooms, VIP networking areas – even a dedicated, secure location for a government Cabinet Meeting to be held on-site.

High level security considerations: As well as rigorous COVID measures, the VIP guest list necessitated strict security protocols. Bray Leino Events liaised with international protection teams and the Met Police on road closures, vetting and accreditation for an event crew of over 1,200.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson hosted the event, delivered a keynote on the UK’s net-zero ambitions, and joined a panel with Microsoft co-founder and renowned green investor, Bill Gates.

In front of the world’s media, pledges on green funding were made, and £10bn of foreign investment in green energy and carbon capture unveiled. Experts predict up to 30,000 UK jobs will be created as a direct result of the Summit.

A royal reception: After the Summit, guests were then transferred – in electric vehicles – to Windsor Castle for a reception with Her Majesty the Queen and members of the royal family.

Luke Brown, Managing Director at Bray Leino Events said: “So many VIP complexities, stakeholders, security and COVID measures. But the team was incredible and demonstrated best-in-class at every stage – the world was watching… and we gave them a great show!”
